Airway/Lung Tissue | Featured Cell Line Bronchial Epithelial Cells Immortalized human bronchial epithelial cells - BMI-1 were established from normal human bronchial epithelial cells which were infected with BMI-1. These cells maintain elevated levels of the BMI-1 protein and the epithelial marker CK14 show a suppression of p16 and maintain a normal karyotype. Recent studies have shown that the airway epithelium is intrinsically different in airway diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease if compared with the normal type including defective repair mechanisms and reduced tight junction protein expression and formation. These cells can aid in the characterization of respiratory disease mechanisms in vitro over sustained periods. Specifications • Source Organ: Airway/Lung • Immortalization Method: BMI-1 • Markers: Cytokeratin 14, MUC5AC, beta tubulin IV
